r+j done
so we closed romeo and juliet on the 12th (that was a while ago). it was fun. overall, a great experience.
so … since then. i did a dinner/reading last saturday for the full draft of spinach girl. delicious and good company. and started rehearsals tonight for dreams come true, a student film i’ll be working on these next two weekends. i’m really excited to start working on it.

acting challenge
so, romeo and juliet opens this week, and for our friday matinee the director issued us this challenge. there is a middle school group coming that has booked out the house, but they neglected to tell us that five of the children coming are deaf. we are bound by law to provide interpreters. these interpreters charge by the hour. our show runs 2 hours and 45 minutes. if we go over 2 hours, we will...

job search continues
so the children’s theatre job looks okay, there is money when we do shows but there are no shows booked yet. i’m still looking for jobs.
had a callback tonite for a short film with money.
have internet at my house now. awesome.
readings and job
so curious new voices was last week and the playwrights showcase and playwrights bootcamp was this week, so that was six readings for me in the last two weeks. super fun. met lots of great people.
also, i found out on saturday that i have a job with a children’s theatre company. i don’t know that much about it. will find out on tuesday.

no kaiser job for me. now i don’t know what i’m going to do.
kp educational theatre dept
so i auditioned for kaiser permanente’s educational theatre department this afternoon. i think i am perfectly qualified, and this would be the absolutely perfect job. i hope i get it.
oh, and i got that space flick gig. we already did all the filming. it was fun.

this is what i auditioned for this morning.
no living history
i didn’t get the living history job. i did make it to a second callback, despite the original timing failure, but that was as far as i got. the two guys who got it really deserved it, i thought, so i’m not too disappointed.
the real job search has begun.
missed the callback
so, i was given the wrong time for the living history callback today. fortunately, i wasn’t the only one, so me and another guy were given a last minute shot. i was really stoked about this job, and bummed that a tiny error cost me my chance. but, being sad or mad won’t change anything.
time to find a real job.

sweet casting news
i have been cast in another reading for the playwrights showcase, a one act called fear of heaven, about orthodox jews in brooklyn. it looks like a good script.
also, i heard back from curtain and have been cast in three of there shows for the season: romeo and juliet, seven brides for seven brothers, and the seussification of romeo and juliet. and that should keep me busy through next march.

combined auditions
so, i managed to get on the waitlist for the dctc/ctg auditions and got a slot on the day of the audition, yesterday. i was prepared to sit and wait around all day, and i felt so glad to not have to. i thought it went really well!
curtain callbacks
i got called back for that audition, for seven brides for seven brothers and the seussification of romeo and juliet. the callbacks are next week.
afd update
had afd rehearsals last thursday and friday. we got the original set, but with no instructions of how to set it up. so we had to figure it out ourselves with only two tiny, grainy photographs as our guide, complicated by the fact that the components were actually from two different sets.
auditioned for a community theatre season in denver last friday. i should hear later this week.
back from LA
i’m back in colorado after being in LA for a week with the showcase. was in santa barbara, got evacuated re: fire. no calls, oh well.

got the script for the amazing food detective today. so excited. not the most brilliant piece of work i’ve ever read, but it will be a lot of fun.
also, heard back from the DMNS today, and i should get a call about an interveiw next week (while i am in los angeles).
Congratulations! Your name has been placed on the eligible list for Recreation...

food detective go
well, i was upset for about a half hour until i got a call from ar offering me the part of the amazing food detective this summer! we still have to see how my auditions in LA go but i’ve got something lined up here in greeley if nothing else!
fuck. i missed the sign up for the combined auditions. i was going to do it the first day, but it kept slipping my mind, and now all the non-AEA slots are full. damn.

curious new voices this summer
i’m on the actor contact list for this summer’s curious new voices playwrighting project at the curious theatre. i was a playwright there the first two years, came back as an actor the third year, and now i’m back again for this, the sixth year. it’s a small thing, and i don’t think there is a stipend, but its a start!
oh, and that photo from yesterday is not of me. that is the Duke of Venice.

wounds to the face by howard barker →
one of the one acts last night was howard barker’s wounds to the face. i’m not sure if it was terribly brilliant or brilliantly terrible. i’m still thinking about it, that’s for sure.
spring one acts
got out of merchant tech early today because there was a leak in the fountain, so i get to go see all of the spring one acts. awesome.
amazing food detective
a friend and former classmate of mine, ar, is directing a children’s theatre piece this summer called “the amazing food detective,” which will teach kids about the importance of nutrition. i thought, hell, i could stay in greeley a little longer to tell kids to eat carrots. i sent off my applications just minutes ago.
What a gross rainy day.

i also applied to work at one of the public libraries here in greeley. i only have a few skills, might as well use them.

Playwrights Showcase at Curious Theatre →
auditions for the playwrights showcase are may 30. i’m looking forward to them. i was involved at curious theatre for several years as part of their curious new voices youth playwrighting project, on both the playwright and actor side, and i’d love to get involved there again.
Merchant of Venus →
jw and i want to create a space adaptation of “the merchant of venice” but it looks like our title is already taken by this board game from the 80’s.
